
IV Conscious Sedation
Pre-Appointment Instructions
1. NOTHING TO EAT OR DRINK AFTER MIDNIGHT ON THE NIGHT BEFORE APPOINTMENT. If appointment is to be performed in the afternoon the the patient should have nothing to eat or drink for at least six hours prior to the surgery.
2. Any medications that are normally taken should be taken with a sip of water, unless otherwise instructed by the doctor.
3. A responsible adult must accompany the patient and REMAIN IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR THE ENTIRE TIME of the procedure. This person must be able to drive since the patient will be unable to drive for at least 24 hours after the anesthesia or sedation.
4. Loose clothes should be worn to faciliate the starting of an intravenous line to administer the medications and also to faciliate the placement of monitoring equipment. Flat comfortable shoes should also be worn.
5.Contacts should not be worn on the day of surgery. No make up or jewelry should be worn on the day of the planned surgical procedure.
6. Sedation medications can not be administered if you have a severe cold, sore throat or sinus infection with infection with excessive drainage. If you develop any of these problems prior to your appointment, please call the office as soon as possible so that we may reschedule your surgery.
7. While taking antibiotics, Birth Control Pills, may become ineffective. Extra precautions should be taken while you are on antibiotics.
8. If gives, rinse with Peridex for 4 days prior to dental appointment. Use 1/4 ounce twice a day and swish for 30 seconds and spit out remainder.
9. Fill any prescriptions prior to your appointment.
