Dental veneers help many of our patients enjoy flawless smiles, covering issues like crooked teeth, discolored teeth, small gaps between teeth, and more.

Dental veneers are versatile and are commonly used by cosmetic dentists during smile makeovers. One of the best aspects of porcelain veneers is their durability when cared for correctly.

To help you get the longest life out of your porcelain veneers, we’ve offered tips on caring for your veneers below.

Maintain Excellent Oral Hygiene

Your oral hygiene is important when it comes to your natural teeth and your veneers. While your veneers will not decay, the tooth underneath the veneer can. To keep your teeth bright and healthy, brush your teeth at least two times every day and floss once a day.

Avoid Hard Toothbrushes and Abrasive Toothpaste

Hard, bristly toothbrushes and abrasive toothpaste may damage the polish on your veneers. When wearing veneers, you should use a toothbrush and toothpaste recommended by your dentist.

Do Not Chew on Hard Objects

Many people chew on objects, like ice, a pencil, or their nails, out of habit. If you are guilty of this habit, you will need to break it to protect your veneers. Chewing on hard objects can damage your teeth, chipping or scratching your veneers.

Use a Nightguard if You Grind or Clench Your Teeth

For people who grind or clench their teeth overnight, wearing a nightguard is important. Grinding or clenching your teeth can damage your veneers and your natural teeth. If you don’t have a nightguard, ask your dentist to recommend one.

If you follow the above recommendations, your veneers should enjoy a long life, keeping your smile beautiful and bright.
