Technology

Our commitment is to ensure that every aspect of your experience at Centre Family Dentistry is comfortable, enjoyable, and stress-free, and this reflects in every interaction we have with you. One way we’ve been able to help our patients is by streamlining their treatment using leading-edge technology that makes procedures more efficient to get you out of the dental chair faster.

Dr. Humbert only invests in equipment that offers benefits to our patients in the form of more comfortable treatment and the best possible long-term outcomes. Please take a moment to learn more about the technology we offer and how it will enhance your experience with us, then call us at (970) 407-1001 to schedule your next dental appointment.

3-D Cone Beam Imaging (CBCT)

Regular digital x-rays provide us with a highly-detailed two-dimensional image of your teeth. However, there are times where Dr. Humbert needs to see the structures of your mouth in greater detail, and that’s when he turns to 3-D cone beam imaging.

Referred to as Cone Beam Computerized Tomography (CBCT), this leading-edge technology allows our dentist to see the position of all your teeth and the anatomical structures of your mouth to identify nerve pathways, sinuses, soft tissue, and bone in a single scan.

We commonly use 3-D cone beam imaging at our Fort Collins dental office to plan wisdom tooth extraction and precise dental implant placement. In combination with customized surgical guides, Dr. Humbert can pre-plan your procedure to ensure your implant is placed in the optimal position in your jaw bone.

Digital X-Rays

Our patients have concerns about the number of dental x-rays they receive, and we understand. But x-rays are invaluable because they help us diagnose problems inside your teeth where we can’t see with a visual exam. At Centre Family Dentistry, we care about your safety and well-being, so we use digital dental x-rays because they reduce your radiation exposure by as much as 80 percent compared to older film x-rays.

And while dental x-rays produce minimal radiation—about the same as you’d get on a two-hour flight—Dr. Humbert only takes them when needed and will always explain what he hopes to learn from the images.

Not only are digital x-rays safer, but they also provide much greater detail than older film x-rays ever did. These state-of-the-art dental x-rays allow us to diagnose issues that aren’t visible to the naked eye and provide prompt treatment for cavities, gum disease, abnormal growths, or abscesses.

Digital x-rays are also an invaluable educational tool because they give you a clear picture of what the problem is. Since the images are digital, Dr. Humbert can manipulate them to zoom in or rotate them so you can easily see why you need treatment.

Since there are no hazardous chemicals involved with digital x-rays, they are safer for the environment. And because we save your x-rays to your patient record, they are easy to access when monitoring conditions or to send to your insurance company or specialist with your permission.

Digital Impressions

Until recently, if we needed an impression of your teeth, our only option was to place a soft putty material in a large metal tray and ask you to bite down on it until it set. This could be a long, uncomfortable process, especially for those with a strong gag reflex. And the results obtained weren’t always as precise as we needed them to be, so we would have to repeat the steps.

At Centre Family Dentistry, we use a state-of-the-art digital intraoral scanner that streamlines the process of taking dental impressions and also gives us a highly-accurate 3-D rendering of your teeth. Dr. Humbert can share the images with you on your chairside monitor so you can understand the treatment we’re planning, and we can send them electronically to our custom dental lab that prepares your high-quality customized restoration. Dr. Humbert commonly uses digital impressions to plan and design dental crowns, bridges, veneers, inlays, and onlays.

Intraoral Cameras

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to see what your dentist sees when they look inside your mouth during an exam? With intraoral cameras, now you can!

An intraoral camera is a small handheld device that captures real-time images of the inside of your mouth as Dr. Humbert passes it over your teeth. The images appear on your chairside monitor, so we can show you what we see and point out any areas of concern.

Being told you have a cavity is one thing; seeing the cavity for yourself makes you part of the process and helps you understand the need for treatment. We can save still images to your patient record so that they’re available for future reference and to send to insurance companies and specialists with your permission.

Electric Handpieces

Is the high-pitched whining sound of a dental drill an anxiety trigger for you? It is for many of our patients, so Dr. Humbert has invested in electric handpieces at our Fort Collins dental office. Since they are not air-driven, electric handpieces minimize the sound significantly. There is also less vibration with electric handpieces, which is uncomfortable for many people.

Electric handpieces also provide a level of precision that’s not possible with air-driven tools, so our dentist and hygienists can comfortably remove decay and clear plaque and tartar from your teeth. The process is more efficient, too, so electric handpieces can help get you out of the dental chair faster.

Nitrous Oxide

Does dental anxiety prevent you from picking up the phone to schedule an appointment? You might be surprised to learn that millions of people feel as you do, but at Centre Family Dentistry, we know it doesn’t have to be that way.

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is a gas that’s mixed with oxygen and delivered through an inhalation mask. Sit back, breathe normally, and soon you will start to feel very calm and have a tremendous sense of well-being.

The sights and sounds around you recede into the background, but you won’t go to sleep and can easily communicate with our dental team as needed. When we finish your procedure, we’ll have you relax and breathe pure oxygen for several minutes.

Instead of feeling groggy from the lingering effects of a sedative, you will leave our dental office feeling bright and alert and ready to get on with the rest of your day.
